AMA News: January 2023 Newsletter

01. Note from our President

To my colleagues,

Fall 2022 marked the 2nd anniversary of the AMA and it has been a rewarding two years! We’ve grown our membership to 116 artist agencies representing over 3000 artists. We’ve expanded our community through partnerships with over 30 industry-leading businesses. This support has allowed the AMA to take root as a major voice in the industry, and given our organization a strong foundation for growth. We could not have done any of this without your engagement.

I am excited to continue the momentum and honored to be this year’s AMA board president. Thank you to departing board members, Carol LeFlufy/Eye Forward, Jen Jenkins/Giant Artists, and Howard Bernstein/ATRBUTE, for their dedication and hard work launching the AMA. Their contributions and commitment to our mission have been invaluable. I, alongside Kelly, Stacy, Heather, and Denise, are excited to welcome our new board members; we are thrilled to have their expertise and perspective and look forward to working with them to shape the future of the AMA.

We are proud to have accomplished so much in our first two years but there's much more to be done and we recognize the challenges and opportunities ahead. The New York Fashion Worker's Act is still being considered by the NY State Legislature and we are working with lawmakers in Albany to redraft the bill. We are in the process of developing an art auction through Artsy to help fundraise for the fight ahead.

There is a lot to look forward to. The board is developing educational webinars for our community to understand the latest trends around generative AI, NFTs, Web3 and sustainability. Post pandemic, we are working to create more networking and community events where we can gather in person. Beginning January 25th, we’ll be hosting a regular happy hour in NY and will be launching a quarterly speaker series this Spring. We are committed to adding more valuable member resources to the website, including a job posting section, helping to make recruiting for your businesses easier.

With the support of our board, our committees, members and partners, I am confident that we will accomplish great things in the coming year. If you are interested in getting involved in the AMA, as a member, a partner or by joining a committee, please don’t hesitate to reach out. The organization is a volunteer effort and we are excited to have more of you become active in our community. We look forward to continuing this momentum throughout the course of this next year!
