Pat Bates, Vice President
Owner, Pat Bates & Associates

Pat’s love affair with photography and the art world began when she studied photography in college with the renowned American photographer Jan Groover. After graduating, Pat worked as a color printer for the esteemed photographer Joel Meyerowitz, once again learning from the best of the best.
With a profound knowledge of art, design and décor, Pat knows what to retain from the past and how to combine it with her innate ability to be ahead of the curve. When she opened her artist rep and management agency Pat Bates & Associates in 1994, she was already focused on what was to come – nesting, food, consumer’s expanding interest in home décor and travel, the expansion of the boutique hospitality world, and the formation of new kinds of families who would then redefine their- and our - notion of how we live.

  • Her international roster of established and emerging photographers, directors, tastemakers and stylists are laser focused on the home, lifestyle and food sectors and bring a deep, holistic understanding of the differing facets of “how we live,” creating imagery with a forward-thinking and sophisticated point-of-view. The agency has recently expanded their international footprint into the UK.

Walter Schupfer, Treasurer
Owner, Walter Schupfer Management

Walter Schupfer was born and raised in a small village just outside of Vienna, Austria. Discovered by Helmut Lang at the age of 15 he soon after made his pilgrimage to America where he began his career as an internationally recognized fashion model. From the moment he embarked on his travels his objective was to satisfy his wanderlust and go in search of discovering the world of opportunities that awaited abroad.

  • Though he had tremendous success in front of the camera, his real interest always laid behind it. Armed with a passion for photography, strong business acumen, knack for negotiation and talent recognition as well as intimate exposure to the leaders in the fashion and advertising industries, Walter set his sights on making his own impact in the business of images, brand identity and marketing.

He began WSM in 1995 which has since become a premier creative management company representing internationally acclaimed photographers, fashion, hair, make-up, prop stylists and mixed media artists. Under Walter Schupfer's direction and hands-on leadership he has founded offices in New York, Los Angeles, Paris and Milan.

In addition to his professional life Walter is the proud father of 5 children, all of whom like to play a game they call "Something you don't know about me" as a way to continue to grow closer. This game becomes increasingly more difficult the longer you play because if anyone participating already knows what you said, you're out. In other words, winning demands self reflection, growth, creativity and honesty, the motto by which Walter lives. Here are just a few things Walter has revealed to help you know him better too:

I was the first person in my family to ever come to America.

Whenever I'm in an elevator with people I'm amazed at how in all the thousands of years of human history, we ended up together.

I had to grow into my name.

I always read “About the Author” first.

I think I might be the luckiest man in the whole world.
