AMA News: June 2024 Newsletter
01. AMA Town Hall - AI Discussion
Today - June 18th | 4PM ET / 1PM PT
The AMA recognizes and shares our membership’s and community’s concern over recent and alarming trends in the AI space; specifically regarding the new and evolving regulations at Adobe and Meta. These developments have raised serious unease given the significant implications they pose for our community; particularly for our artists. We are hosting a town hall next week to come together as a community and discuss actionable next steps needed to address these concerns.
The AMA Board will be joined by attorneys Doug Roy of Cypress and Emilie Pitts of Esther Grace Law.
The AMA is committed to being a prominent voice in this conversation and are taking the following steps:
- Consulting our legal counsel for advice on how to best protect the rights of our artists
- Actively connecting with other organizations in our community to determine how to best combine our efforts and explore options to ensure our voices are heard
- Researching lobbying opportunities with the goal of influencing National legislation to safeguard our community
For reference prior to the town hall, here are recent articles on the subject that can be helpful to understand the current situation:

NYT Article Regarding Meta’s Plans to Scrape Images for AI
Additionally, we encourage you to talk to your own legal counsel and update your Terms and Conditions to prevent your artists’ imagery being used to train AI models. This is a crucial part of the process and should be discussed with your clients. The AMA website shares sample Terms and Conditions for you to reference.
Please invite anyone in your network, including your artists, to this crucial discussion. Together, we can make a difference and advocate for the rights of our community.
