01. NYFWA Update - AMA Amendments Accepted!

We are thrilled to report that after a year of work educating the New York State Legislature on the role and services provided by artist management companies on behalf of artists, the Legislature has removed “creative management companies” from the mandates in the New York State Fashion Workers Act (S.2477-A/A.5631-A). The bill is now solely focused on protections for models - a goal we applaud.

We are grateful to the bill’s primary sponsors, Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal and Assemblymember Karines Reyes, for carefully considering the Artist Management Association’s concerns and amending the bill in recognition that many of the original provisions were inapplicable, incompatible, or unreasonably damaging to artists and artist management companies. We also appreciate the many Senators and Assemblymembers with whom we met and spoke to over the past months who conveyed our concerns to the bill sponsors and legislative leadership. And, of course, we are grateful to the many members of the AMA and our allies and industry partners who urged the Legislature to address our concerns – it truly made a difference.

We will continue to monitor the legislation and update the AMA membership regarding the bill's status as New York’s legislative session draws to a close on June 8th. If you have any questions, please email us at the link below
